SUNNYFEEL Oversized Camping Chair Review

A 13.4 lb oversized directors chair with a side table, storage pockets, and a pinch point you need to respect.

The SUNNYFEEL camping chair is worth buying if you want a camp chair that sits like a real chair. It’s oversized, holds 300 lbs, weighs 13.4 lbs, and the fold-out side table has a cup holder and phone slot. Buy it if cheap low-slung chairs wreck your knees.

The Case Is My Favorite Part

The carry bag is what sold me before I ever sat down. It’s a square, it has a handle, and you can throw this in and out of your trunk really simply. That’s the whole pitch. Most camp chairs I’ve owned came in a long skinny tube that rolls around the back of the car and never goes back in right. This one packs down to 20 by 19 by 5 and drops right in. The chair itself has a handle inside too, so you pull it out, pull the handles up, and spread it out. You can check the current price on Walmart if you want to see where it’s sitting today.

The Red Handle Is the Whole Trick

Everything about opening and closing this chair runs through one red handle on the side. Pull it up until it locks into place and the chair is perfectly set up. Push it down and it collapses. Bam. Super easy both directions, and once you know the handle exists there’s no fumbling with it in a dark parking lot.

Here’s the part I want you to hear. Keep your hand away from that pinch piece while you’re opening it. That piece will crush anything that goes in there. It’s not a defect, it’s just how a click-to-lock steel frame works, but with kids around it’s the one thing I’d point out before handing it over. Keep it clear and you’re good to go.

Storage on the Left, Table on the Right

The left arm runs three layers of storage: an open slot sized for a phone, a zippered pocket underneath it for keys or a wallet, and Velcro pockets above. That’s more organized than most camp chairs give you on the entire chair, and it’s all within reach without getting up.

The best part is the little table on the right side that extends out. It has a phone holder, which I tested with my old iPod touch, and a drink holder. There’s even enough flat space for a magazine. That’s the difference between a camp chair and a seat you’ll stay in. No balancing a drink in the grass, no setting your phone face down in the dirt.

Sitting in it, the thing feels oversized in the way the name promises. It’s 25 inches wide and the seat sits at 36 inches of total height, so it’s not low to the ground. You’re not hurting your knees getting in and out. It’s easy in, easy out. Some of those other chairs have you scrunched in with your knees up by your chest. This really feels like a regular chair that you just happen to be out tailgating or camping in. The mesh back breathes, and with a 300 lb capacity it’s comfortable to sit in regardless of what your size is. I can get up and sit back down without thinking about it, which is more than I can say for the sling chairs that came before it.

13.4 Pounds Isn’t Nothing

It’s lightweight for a steel-frame chair, not lightweight for a backpack. At 13.4 lbs this is a car-to-campsite chair, a lawn chair, a tailgate chair. Carrying it a mile down a trail would get old. And that pinch point on the frame stays a thing you have to remember every single time you open it.

Who This SUNNYFEEL Camping Chair Is Actually Built For

The seat height is what separates this from the pile of sling chairs that wreck your knees, at 36 inches tall it sits like a kitchen chair, not a beach lounger you need help escaping. Pair that with a 25-inch-wide seat and a case that actually closes in under a minute, and the steel frame and 300 lb rating are just confirmation that nothing here is going to give out on you by August. Take any one of those three things away and it’s just another folding chair.

The packing routine is thirty seconds: red handle down, table down, legs fall in, back into the case. If your current chair lives in the trunk because it never fits back in its bag, that problem is gone. This is the chair to buy.

Pros

  • Square carry bag with a handle drops cleanly into a trunk
  • One red handle opens and locks the whole frame
  • Fold-out side table with drink holder, phone holder, and magazine space
  • Oversized 25″ seat that sits at normal chair height, easy in and easy out
  • Multiple storage pockets including zippered and Velcro

Cons

  • The folding mechanism will crush anything near it while you open the chair
  • 13.4 lbs is fine for a trunk, heavy for any real carry
  • Storage is only on the left side, so there’s nothing on the table side

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the mesh and Oxford fabric hold up if it gets rained on?

The seat is double-seam 600x300D Oxford cloth with 200g mesh, which sheds light rain and dries out fast. It isn’t waterproof, so a soaking downpour will leave it damp. The mesh panel drains faster than a solid fabric seat would.

Does it come in other sizes or just the one?

One size, 21″ deep by 25″ wide by 36.22″ tall, rated to 300 lbs. The listing sells it as a two-pack, so you’re getting a matched pair rather than picking dimensions. If you need something narrower for a tight tent vestibule, this isn’t that chair.

How do you clean the seat?

Spot clean it with soap and water and let it air dry in the open position. The frame is alloy steel, so don’t store it wet in the bag or you’re asking for rust at the joints. Let it sit open in the garage for an hour after a wet trip.

Is there a return window if it doesn’t fit my car?

There’s a 30-day refund or replacement policy on the listing. Packed, it’s 20 x 19 x 5 inches, so measure your trunk floor before ordering if space is tight. Two of them stack flat without much trouble.

Half a star goes to the pinch point on the frame, which you have to respect every time you open it. Skip it if you’re hiking your chair in, because 13.4 lbs is a trunk weight. A padded cover over that folding joint and this is a five.
