BIGOOD 55dB Noise Reduction Ear Plugs Review

I wear these reusable silicone earplugs at church and on planes. Here's how the noise reduction, fit, and case actually hold up.

The BIGOOD 55dB ear plugs are worth buying if loud music or plane noise wrecks your ears or your sleep. They’re washable silicone, weigh 0.1oz per plug, and ship with 7 pairs of eartips so the fit works out. Buy them for concerts, church, and travel.

How this review was made: written from my own video review of this product. Every opinion here is my own, from using it myself.

Quick Verdict

I wore one in each ear on camera and you can’t even tell unless I turn to the side. The first eartip out of the box fit me perfectly, and I’ve been using these every week at church where the music is amazing but it’s just loud. They go in with a twist and put me right to sleep on planes.

Buy if you:

  • Sit through loud live music weekly and want to still hear it, just not have your ears hurt
  • Keep throwing out disposable foam plugs after one or two uses
  • Sleep on planes and need noise blocked without something bulky in your ear
  • Want a case you can clip to a key chain or drop in a pocket

I Had One In Each Ear and Nobody Could Tell

I filmed most of that review wearing both plugs and you’d never know. Unless I turned to the side, you couldn’t see a thing. That’s the part I didn’t expect from these reusable silicone earplugs, because every foam plug I’ve used before stuck out of my head like a cork.

They’re so light you don’t even feel them in your ear. You kind of twist it in, and that’s it. At 0.1 oz each, there’s basically nothing sitting in your canal to remind you it’s there. That’s why they work for sleeping instead of just sitting still.

Reusable Beats Disposable, and That’s the Whole Pitch

The thing I love most about these is that you can clean them and reuse them. I’d been going through disposable foam plugs, and you can only use those once or twice before they get all nasty and disgusting and you throw them out. Silicone doesn’t do that.

The little tip pops right off the body. Wash it, pop it back on, and you’ve got a brand new set of earplugs. So the math is pretty simple: one purchase here against a bag of foam you’re restocking every month or two. Check the current price at the link, but the per-use cost isn’t close.

The flip side is that washing is now a chore you own. These tips are small. If you’re the kind of person who will never rinse them, the reusable angle doesn’t buy you anything and you’ll end up with the same gross plug, just a more expensive one.

Noise Reduction That Keeps the Music, Drops the Pain

These don’t shut sound off, and that’s the point. BIGOOD rates them up to 55dB SNR in lab testing, with acoustic filters that knock down low-frequency noise while letting mid and high frequencies through. In plain terms: at a concert you can still hear the music, it’s just not overpowering and it’s not going to hurt your ears.

That’s exactly how I use them. I bring the case to our church every week because the music is really loud. The music is amazing, don’t get me wrong, but it’s just loud. I throw these in and I still enjoy the whole set, I just don’t walk out with my ears ringing.

Planes are the other one. I use them all the time on flights because it blocks the noise out and it puts me right to sleep. Engine drone is low-frequency, which is the part this filtering design targets hardest, so it lines up with what I’m hearing. If you want dead silence instead, this isn’t that product. Nothing here is sealing your ear canal shut, and the listing is upfront that there’s a pressure-balancing airflow channel built in specifically so it doesn’t.

Fit does the rest of the work. You get 7 pairs of tips, XS through L, two per size. Mine was the first one that came out of the box, which I was really happy about, but that’s luck. Plan on swapping sizes for a night or two until you find the fit that’s right for you, because a loose tip is going to cost you most of the noise reduction the spec sheet promises.

Where These Sit Against Foam and Electronic Buds

Foam plugs block more raw decibels but turn music into a muffled wall of bass, useless at a concert. ANC earbuds like AirPods Pro do a better job on planes but cost ten times more, need charging, and stick out far enough to make side-sleeping uncomfortable. These land in the middle: not the loudest blocker, but the only one of the three you’d actually wear to a show.

Filtered silicone plugs like these split the difference. No battery, no app, no pairing. You twist them in and go. The trade-off you’re accepting is that you don’t get a certified NRR number stamped on them the way shooting-range foam does, so for actual job-site machinery I’d want rated protection instead.

One thing worth knowing before you buy: the sales rank on this listing has been sliding, sitting around #314,305 in Health & Household against a 90-day average near #274,830. It’s selling less than it was. That doesn’t say anything about how they perform, but it does mean this is a smaller seller than the household names, so I wouldn’t count on a replacement set being easy to find in two years.

Living With Them: The Case Matters More Than You’d Think

The case is the reason I actually use these instead of leaving them on a nightstand. It has a keychain loop, so mine lives clipped next to my house keys, which means they were already in my pocket the last three times I needed them.

Upkeep is pulling the tip, washing it, letting it dry, putting it back. That’s the full maintenance list. No filters to replace, no charging, nothing proprietary to reorder. The spare tips are your consumable, and with 7 pairs in the box you’ve got a long runway before that’s a problem.

Pros

  • Washable and reusable, so no more throwing out nasty foam every week
  • So light you don’t feel them, and basically invisible head-on
  • Music stays clear at concerts and church, just not overpowering
  • Blocks plane noise well enough to put me right to sleep
  • Keychain-loop case means they’re actually with you when you need them

Cons

  • Tips are small and fiddly to wash, and the reusable benefit dies if you skip it
  • Not total silence by design, so light sleepers chasing zero sound will want more
  • Finding your tip size can take a few swaps, and fit drives the whole noise reduction number
  • No certified NRR rating for heavy machinery use

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you hear an alarm or your kids with these in?

Yes, mostly. The filtering targets low-frequency noise and lets mid and high frequencies through, and alarms and voices live up in that range. You’ll hear them quieter, not gone.

How do I clean them?

Pull the silicone tip off the body, wash it, and let it dry before you reattach it. The material is washable skin-friendly silicone, so no special solution needed. Do it regularly and they stay fresh instead of going the way of foam.

Do they work if you sleep on your side?

Yes. They sit flush enough that I don’t notice them, and at 0.1 oz there’s no weight pressing into a pillow. BIGOOD specifically designed the low profile for side sleepers.

Do they need an app, battery, or charging?

None of it. These are passive silicone plugs with built-in acoustic filters, so there’s no electronics, no pairing, no subscription. Twist them in and they work forever as long as the silicone holds up.

The half star comes off for the tip-washing chore and the no-NRR question mark, not the performance. If you need literal silence to sleep, these let too much through on purpose and you’ll be annoyed. A printed NRR number and a slightly larger tip to handle would make this a five.
