Oasis Mini Sand Art Table: The Unexpected Gift That’s Mesmerizing to Watch
A Father's Day gift turned into the thing my kids and I keep staring at. Here's what the 9-inch Oasis Mini sand art table does well, and where it stops short.
The Oasis Mini Sand Art Table is worth buying if you want a calming conversation piece rather than a gadget with a job. The 9-inch bamboo unit draws patterns with a magnetic ball, wipes them, and rolls to the next one in your playlist. Buy it as a gift.

Quick Verdict
I got this for Father’s Day and my kids and I have been staring at it for the past couple of days. A magnetic ball rolls through sand in a 9-inch bamboo frame and draws Albert Einstein. It’s soothing, and it’s a conversation piece before it’s anything else.
Buy if you:
- want a calming thing to watch instead of another screen
- have kids who’ll park themselves in front of it
- need a gift for someone who already owns everything
- use it for mindfulness, meditation, or just winding down
Skip if you:
- don’t want a phone involved. Patterns, colors, brightness and speed all live in the app
- expect a big centerpiece. This is the 9-inch Mini
- want to draw custom art on day one. That takes learning the tools, and I haven’t gotten into that yet

I Got It for Father’s Day and Didn’t See It Coming
Albert Einstein showed up in the sand and that’s when it clicked. A small magnetic ball rolls under the surface, pulls a line through the sand, and a few minutes later there’s a portrait sitting on my table. The Oasis Mini Sand Art Table was a gift I wasn’t expecting, and I’m really happy we got it.
My kids dragged chairs over on the first night and didn’t move until the playlist cycled through. That’s the whole pitch, and it held up on day three the same as day one.
Where This Mini Sand Art Table Stops Short
Everything runs through the phone, so if you hate app-dependent decor, this isn’t your product. Colors, brightness, speed, pattern selection, playlists. All of it lives in the app rather than on a dial you can spin from the couch.
The custom art side is the other gap. You can make your own designs, and the tools and tutorials are included, but it’s a separate project with its own learning curve. I haven’t gotten into that yet. For the first few days I ran the patterns the company made and the ones already in the playlists, and that was plenty.
And it’s 9 inches. Mini means mini. It reads as a tabletop piece, not a wall-sized installation.
Setting It Up: Sand, Ball, Smoothing Card
Setup is pouring sand, dropping in the ball bearing, and leveling the surface with the card. That’s it in practice. The box gives you the sand packet, the single ball bearing, the sand smoothing card, the manual, a power adapter and a USB cable, so there’s nothing to source separately.
The leveling pass matters more than it looks. Get the sand even and the first pattern comes out clean. Then you’re in the app choosing from hundreds of patterns, and there’s a lot of range in there. Dinosaurs, alligators, all kinds of stuff. You can set the light ring to a solid color or rainbow, there’s a bunch of different options, plus brightness and speed.
Build a playlist and it just keeps going. It draws a piece, cleans it off itself, and starts the next one. You don’t babysit it.

A Crowded Shelf, and This One Sells
Most mini sand art products you’ll find are craft kits, not machines. Search around and you hit sand art bottles and mini sand art kits for kids, which are a totally different thing: you pour the sand yourself and it stays put. This is a sand art robot. The ball does the drawing and the device erases its own work.
Two things worth knowing from the sales data rather than the listing. It’s moving over 1,000 units a month and sits around #27,991 in Health & Household, which is a steady seller rather than a flash-in-the-pan novelty. And the price has been hovering at its normal three-month level, so there’s no obvious reason to sit on your hands waiting for a swing.
What It’s Really For
The sand art table is a pause button. It’s not entertainment in any conventional sense, it’s a visual anchor, the thing in the room that slows everything else down.
I’d push back on anyone buying it expecting entertainment in the usual sense. Nothing happens fast. The ball crawls. That slowness is the appeal, but it’s also why someone who wants stimulation won’t get what they came for. My kids sit and watch the picture form, and I sit there with them, and it’s just really fun and soothing.
Three days in, my kids are still pulling chairs up to watch Einstein materialize in the sand. That’s the whole case for buying one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it need a subscription or an account to use the patterns?
No subscription is listed for the app. You get access to hundreds of patterns plus playlist building and the RGB lighting controls through the free iOS and Android app.
What happens to the sand over time, and can I replace it?
The unit ships with one sand packet and one ball bearing, so plan on the included amount being your supply. Since the machine erases and redraws constantly, the sand just cycles rather than getting used up.
Is this safe around small kids and pets?
The sand surface is open, so a hand or a paw can reach into it. Mine sits where my kids can watch but the table is stable, and the ball bearing is small enough that toddlers shouldn’t be left alone with it.
Can it work as an office desk piece, not just a living room one?
Yes, the 9-inch size is desk-friendly and it runs off a USB cable and power adapter. The light ring can be dimmed, so you can keep it subtle during a workday.
