I bought the KTC 25 inch MEGAPAD despite the negative reviews, set it up in under five minutes, and here's where it lands.

The KTC 25 inch MEGAPAD is worth buying if you want a portable smart TV with a real screen instead of a tiny one. It weighs 12 pounds, runs the Google Play Store, and I had it set up in under five minutes. Buy it for streaming, skip it for gaming.

Quick Verdict

The heft and build quality surprised me, no cheap plastic feel, and setup took under five minutes. It’s a media beast, not a gaming PC.

Buy if you:

  • Want Netflix, YouTube and Disney+ on a screen you can carry outside
  • Camp or travel and hate squinting at a phone
  • Need a screen for Zoom calls and light work
  • Still use wired headphones

Twelve Pounds Is the Whole Point

First off, the quality doesn’t feel like cheap plastic. It’s got some real heft to it at 12 pounds, so this thing is not going to get knocked over in the wind, which matters if you’re setting it up outside. The bezels are thinner than the product photos suggest, and the screen reads sharp from across a picnic table, no squinting, no washed-out colors in daylight. You can see the current price here.

What apps can you get on the KTC 25 inch MEGAPAD?

All of them. It has the Google Play Store, so Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, whatever you already pay for. People are always asking me this, and the answer is simpler than they expect because it’s just Android 14 underneath. And it has a headphone jack, which was a nice surprise. I had the whole thing set up in just under five minutes.

It’s Not a Gaming PC

The negative reviews almost write themselves: someone bought it expecting a gaming rig and got a streaming tablet. The chip handles Netflix and YouTube without a hiccup; it does not handle anything GPU-hungry without stuttering. That’s the whole tradeoff, and it’s the same 12 pounds that keeps it planted outside working against you every time you repack the car.

Before You Buy

There is no direct competitor at this size, a 25-inch Android panel you can carry to a campsite simply doesn’t exist elsewhere right now. If that gap is exactly what you’ve been trying to fill, buy it. If you’re still on the fence about whether streaming outside is actually your use case, it isn’t, and no amount of screen real estate will change that.

Pros

  • Doesn’t feel like cheap plastic, real heft at 12 lbs
  • Full Google Play Store access on Android 14
  • Headphone jack included
  • Set up in under five minutes
  • Screen is bigger in person than expected

Cons

  • Not a gaming machine, light work and streaming only
  • 12 pounds makes “portable” a relative term

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it need a subscription or account to work?

No subscription for the device itself. You’ll sign into a Google account to use the Play Store, and then whatever streaming services you already pay for.

Can I use it for video calls?

Yes, there’s a built-in camera, and it handles that kind of light work fine. It ships with a remote control too, which helps when you’re across the room.

What does Android certification mean for me?

It means Google licensed the device officially, so the Play Store and Google services are built in rather than sideloaded. That’s why app installs behave like a normal Android tablet.
