The SofaBaton U3 universal remote replaces up to 30 devices with one hub-free controller. Here's what happened when I actually used it.

The SofaBaton U3 universal remote is worth buying if you’re drowning in remotes for your TV, streaming box, game consoles, and speakers. It connects up to 30 devices across IR, Bluetooth, and RF, switches between them without re-pairing anything, and I used it to run my Fire TV, Switch, Xbox, my son’s projector, and a Google speaker in the kitchen from one unit. Buy it.

Quick Verdict

I went from four remotes to one, and the switch between my Fire TV, Switch, and Xbox happens without disconnecting or reconnecting anything. My favorite part is how versatile it actually is, it runs my living room, my son’s projector upstairs, and my kitchen Google speaker off the same device.

Buy if you:

  • Juggle remotes for a TV, streaming box, and two game consoles
  • Want to control multiple rooms (living room, bedroom, kitchen) from one remote
  • Like building macros that turn on a TV, switch input, and power your stereo in one press
  • Want to remap buttons to launch apps or kill power with one press

SofaBaton U3 Universal Remote Replaces Four Remotes

Hey guys, this review is for the SofaBaton U3 universal remote, and the company sent me one to answer the questions you’ve been asking about it. IR, Bluetooth, and RF 433/315 are all on board, which means it talks to my Fire TV over Bluetooth, my TV over IR, and anything buried in a cabinet over RF, no single protocol left anything out. The coolest part, the part that actually changed how my living room works, is that when I connect multiple Bluetooth devices, like different speakers or a Fire TV, the U3 switches between them seamlessly. No disconnecting from one and reconnecting to another. I personally run my Fire TV off it, switch to my Nintendo Switch, change to my Xbox, control TV volume from the TV itself or from the speakers. One remote, every device.

What Replacing a Drawer Full of Remotes Is Actually Worth

Check today’s price on link.amazon before you compare this to a cheap universal remote, because the U3 isn’t competing in that category. You’re buying a device that connects up to 30 products, pulls from a cloud database covering 6,000+ brands and over 500,000 devices, and replaces the IR-only remote that came in the box with your TV, soundbar, and streaming stick. That’s a real stack of hardware, three or four remotes at minimum in my house, reduced to one unit I actually know where to find.

The Macro Button Is Where the Value Actually Shows Up

You can set up a macro that turns on your TV, sets it to the correct input, turns on your stereo system, and turns on your Fire Cube, all from one button. That’s basically movie night, set up before you sit down. You can also reprogram every single button on the controller. Want the channel-up button to turn everything off? Go ahead, do it. Want the home button to open Netflix? You can remap any button you want. The remappable buttons are genuinely useful: I have one button that kills everything in the living room at once, and another that opens Netflix directly on my Fire TV. The U3 also has voice control for any compatible device, so hook it to a Fire TV or Apple TV and you get that functionality baked in, plus a built-in backlight so you can see the buttons in a dark room.

Does the Battery Actually Last Weeks Like SofaBaton Claims?

The spec sheet says 3-4 weeks per charge off a 1,200 mAh battery, and nothing in my use contradicted that. It charges over USB-C in roughly 3 hours. The buttons feel like they’re built to survive daily use, and the wake-on-lift screen means you’re not fumbling for a power button every time you pick it up. The plastic body is light at 4.4 ounces, which matters when this thing is replacing four heavier remotes you used to juggle. One real catch: IR control needs line-of-sight unless you add SofaBaton’s R1 Repeater separately, so if your gear is tucked in a cabinet, budget for that add-on.

Three Rooms, Zero Extra Setup

My favorite part about this is how versatile it actually is, because I can be in my living room watching a movie on Fire TV with my stereo set to the right input, then carry this up to my son’s room, select projector, and control everything in there. Go to my kitchen, select my Google device, and play music, control volume, play and pause songs, all without doing any additional setup. Everything’s configured once from the app, and the app’s setup is simple and easy to follow. If you’re running three or more devices across more than one room, this remote pays for itself the first week, the only thing it won’t do is replace your eyes for IR gear stuck behind cabinet doors.

Who Shouldn’t Bother

Four traditional remotes on coffee table with SofaBaton U3 in a modern living room setting

One TV and one cable box? A cheaper two-device universal remote will cover you fine; this one is built for multi-console and multi-room setups. In a house with layered gear, consoles, streaming boxes, a projector in another room, a smart speaker in the kitchen, this remote justifies itself. Skip it if your setup is simpler. If that’s not your setup, a cheaper two-device universal remote will cover you fine.

Pros

  • Switches between Bluetooth devices without disconnecting and reconnecting
  • Macro buttons turn multi-step startup routines into one press
  • Every button is remappable, including turning the home button into an app launcher
  • Works across multiple rooms (living room, kid’s room, kitchen) with no extra setup once configured
  • Built-in backlight and voice control for compatible devices

Cons

  • IR devices tucked out of line-of-sight need the separate R1 Repeater, an extra purchase
  • Initial setup requires going through the app to configure devices and macros before it feels seamless

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the SofaBaton U3 need a hub to work?

No, it’s hub-free. The remote itself handles IR, Bluetooth, and RF signals directly, and everything is configured through SofaBaton’s companion app rather than a separate box plugged into your TV.

Will the U3 control devices that don’t support Bluetooth or voice control?

Yes. It supports IR and RF 433/315 learning alongside Bluetooth, so older TVs, stereo receivers, and basic appliances without smart features still work as long as you’re within line-of-sight for IR gear.

What’s the warranty on the SofaBaton U3?

It comes with a 1-year warranty from SofaBaton. Firmware and the app’s device database get updated on the brand’s end, since the code library is cloud-based rather than fixed at purchase.

Can one SofaBaton U3 replace remotes in more than one room?

Yes, you can save multiple room profiles and switch between them on the same remote. I personally use mine for my living room setup, my son’s projector in another room, and a kitchen speaker, without reconfiguring anything each time.

Loses ground only on the line-of-sight IR limitation, which forces a separate R1 Repeater purchase if your gear sits behind closed cabinet doors. Skip it if you have one TV and one box, there’s nothing here for you. Anyone running multiple consoles, rooms, or a speaker setup gets real daily use out of this.
