The FUKKUDA Electric Candle Lighter is worth buying if you’re tired of grabbing a butane lighter that’s already empty. It’s a USB arc lighter with an LED battery indicator, a 7.5-inch flexible neck, and a windproof plasma arc. Buy it for candles, gas stoves, and campfires. Skip it if you want a true flame.

Quick Verdict

Nine times out of ten when I grab a lighter in my house, it’s empty. This one has an LED indicator so I always know what’s left, and the arc doesn’t care about wind. I keep one in the kitchen drawer and one in the car.

Buy if you:

  • Light candles around the house constantly and keep finding dead butane lighters
  • Want something in the car glovebox just in case you’re in a pinch

  • Need to light a gas stove during a power outage

The Empty Lighter Problem

I’m always scrambling to find a lighter, and nine times out of ten the one I grab is empty. Fluid down at the bottom, thumb working the wheel, nothing. That’s the whole reason this USB arc lighter stuck around my kitchen instead of ending up in a drawer. The company sent me a free sample for this review, which I’ll say up front.

No fluid to run out of. That’s the pitch, and it holds.

Arc vs. butane: what you’re trading

A plasma arc isn’t a flame, and that’s the trade. Butane gives you a continuous flame you can hold as long as the fluid lasts. This gives you a 7-second burst between two electrodes, then it cuts itself off. For candles, a gas stove, or getting a campfire going, 7 seconds is plenty. For anything that needs you to hold a flame on it for half a minute, it isn’t.

Against wooden matches it’s not close. No wind problem, no spent match, no box to find.

Pop it open and you’re lit

There’s no setup here beyond a first charge. You just pop it open and you can see the arc connector sitting right there at the tip, ready to light whatever you need on fire. The neck is 7.5 inches of flexible aluminum, which is what gets you down into a jar candle where a normal lighter burns your thumb.

The whole thing is 1.2 ounces. It disappears in a kitchen drawer and it disappears in a center console.

Windproof matters more than the spec sheet makes it sound

An arc has nothing to blow out, a butane flame on an open patio is a coin flip. That’s the one spec I’d put ahead of the rest. An arc has nothing to blow out. A butane flame on an open patio is a coin flip and you know it.

The LED indicator does the other half of the work. You always know how much is left before you need it, which is the exact information a butane lighter never gives you until the moment it fails. One full charge covers hundreds of uses.

I keep one in my kitchen drawer and one in my car. The kitchen one lights candles; the car one has started two campfires so far. Neither has ever been empty when I needed it.

Would I keep buying these? Yes.

I stopped buying replacement butane lighters the week this showed up in my kitchen drawer. Not because it’s clever tech, but because it solves the one failure I kept hitting. The catch is real though: a lighter that needs recharging is a lighter you can forget about, and a dead battery is worse than low fluid because there’s no coaxing it. Plug it in when the indicator drops and that never comes up.

If you’ve torched your thumb on a jar candle or stood over a gas burner clicking a dead lighter during a power outage, just grab one. It’s a lighter that’s actually ready when you are.

Pros

  • Fully rechargeable, so there’s no lighter fluid to run out of
  • LED indicator tells you the charge level before you need it
  • Windproof arc for campfires on breezy days
  • 7.5-inch flexible neck reaches down into deep candles
  • 1.2 oz, so a kitchen drawer and a car both get one

Cons

  • Needs charging. Forget it and you’ve got a dead lighter with no backup fuel
  • 7-second auto-shutoff means no sustained flame
  • Arc, not flame, so some jobs still want a torch

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you take it on a plane?

Check with your airline before you pack it. Arc lighters are treated differently from butane ones by the TSA, and the rules depend on whether it’s carry-on or checked. Don’t assume it’s fine just because there’s no fuel in it.

Is it safe around kids?

It has a child-safety lock switch, so it won’t fire from a bump in a drawer. Still a lighter though. The 7-second auto-shutoff also keeps it from being left running.

What happens if it gets wet?

It’s splash-proof, so rain at a campsite or a wet counter isn’t a problem. That’s splash-proof, not submersible. Dry the tip before you fire it.

Half a star off for the 7-second cutoff, which is the one place butane still wins. Anybody who needs a held flame for soldering or a stubborn fireplace log should look at a torch instead. A 15-second mode would make this a five.
