Quick Verdict
I bought this as an alternative to a whiteboard for my garage gym, and this thing fits the bill. The colors really stand out on black glass, and the positioning paper turned an install I was intimidated by into a 10-minute job.

My Kids’ Leaderboard Lives On Our Black Dry Erase Board

I needed a whiteboard alternative for the gym in my garage, and this black dry erase board ended up being what I use every single day. We run a leaderboard for my kids on it. I love how the colors really stand out against the black glass, way more than they ever did on white. I wrote out a math equation on camera just to show how it looks, and it’s really easy to write with. The markers glide.
What 24 x 18 Inches of Tempered Glass Buys You
4 mm tempered glass won’t ghost like melamine, erasing is as easy as writing, and magnets stick without separate mounts. A cheap whiteboard ghosts after a month and you end up staring at last week’s workout faded into the surface. The glass here is non-porous, so erasing is just as easy as writing. A microfiber cloth is usually sufficient enough to take everything down. It also comes with six super strong magnets in case you want to hang anything up on the board, plus a pen tray, so you’re not buying accessories separately. For a board this size, getting six neodymium magnets and a pen tray in the box means you’re writing on it the same day it arrives.
Sometimes the Microfiber Isn’t Enough
Caked-on marker needs a second pass. When stuff has been sitting on there a while, the microfiber cloth alone doesn’t get it, so I grab a wet wipe or a disinfectant wipe and go over it again. It usually comes off the second time around. Not a deal-breaker, but if you’re expecting one swipe every time, that’s not the reality.
The Positioning Paper Is the Whole Install

You mark the wall using a template, drill screws, and skip holding the panel, a 10-minute job even if you’ve never mounted glass. It comes with a sheet that’s the same exact size as the board, and all you do is put that on the wall. There are markings that show you exactly where the screws go. Mark your wall, drill your screws in, and you’re good to go. You never have to hold the glass panel up while you line things up, which is the part I was dreading. The only decision that actually matters: vertical or horizontal. Make that call before you touch the positioning paper, because once the screws are in, you’re committed.
Pros
- Marker colors stand out dramatically more on black glass
- Really easy to write on, and erasing is just as easy
- Positioning paper makes install simple even if you’re nervous about it
- Comes with six super strong magnets and a pen tray
Cons
- Caked-on marker needs a wet wipe and a second pass
- 24 x 18 is a small footprint if you’re writing a lot
- Screws through the front mean committing to a spot
Frequently Asked Questions
Do the screw heads show once it’s mounted?
No. The screws go through the front of the glass and then get covered with metal caps, so you end up with a clean frameless look. That’s also why the positioning paper matters so much.
What happens if the glass gets hit or cracks?
It’s tempered, so the 4 mm panel is built to resist breaking, and if it does break the shards aren’t supposed to fall out. That’s a real consideration in a garage gym where a dropped plate or a loose ball is in play.
Can I use regular dry erase markers or do I need special ones?
Regular dry erase markers work fine on the glass. Go with brighter colors though, since dark markers disappear against the black surface. Neon and lighter shades are where this board earns its look.
